Volunteer for the 2022 U.S. Amateur Championship:

VOLUNTEERS

Thank you for your interest in supporting the 122nd U.S. Amateur Championship!  This webpage is for those volunteering at Arcola Country Club and The Ridgewood Country Club during the championship.  We greatly appreciate your willingness to support this prestigious event. The link to register for one or more volunteer shifts is at the bottom of the page.

Volunteers play an essential role in conducting a USGA championship. We sincerely appreciate those who generously donate their time.  Hosting the U.S. Amateur requires more than 600 volunteers! While there is no required minimum number of shifts -- and we appreciate any time you can offer -- we hope you will consider working multiple shifts throughout these seven days. Giving back to the game you love, and helping our community and players from around the world, will create lasting memories.
The following is a list of volunteer assignments available at Arcola Country Club and The Ridgewood Country Club. Please note that you must be 16 years or older to volunteer.

VOLUNTEER Job Descriptions

Marshals/Forecaddies

Marshals/Forecaddies are the largest group of volunteers and play a vital role. The responsibilities of a marshal/forecaddie include helping maintain quiet for the players, spotting balls in the rough, and monitoring conduct around the greens.

Marshals/forecaddies will be assigned to a specific hole during the two rounds of stroke play (Monday, August 15 and Tuesday, August 16) and the first two rounds of match play (Wednesday, August 17 and Thursday, August 18). They will stay on the same hole for the duration of the shift. These volunteers should have a working knowledge of golf and the ability to walk to and from their respective hole assignments.

Marshals/forecaddies will accompany specific matches and stay with the same group of golfers for the last four rounds of match play (Friday, August 19, Saturday, August 20, and Sunday, August 21). They will provide crowd control and help spot errant balls.  These volunteers should have a working knowledge of golf and the ability to walk at least 18 holes at a steady pace.

Walking Scorers

A walking scorer will accompany each group of golfers during the two rounds of stroke play and each round of match play. The walking scorer will record the hole-by-hole scores on a device provided by the USGA.  The device will transmit these scores to the USGA’s website, allowing for “live” championship scoring.  These volunteers must have a working knowledge of golf, a comfort level with electronic devices, and the ability to walk at least 18 holes at a steady pace.

Standard Bearers

A standard-bearer will walk behind each group of golfers during each round of match play and will carry a mobile scoreboard. The standard-bearer will update the scoreboard after each hole to reflect the status of the match. These volunteers must have a working knowledge of golf, the strength to carry a heavy metal sign for at least four hours, and the ability to walk at least 18 holes at a steady pace.

Tee Service Volunteers

Tee Service volunteers will restock water on the tee boxes. They will also keep the grounds tidy by monitoring and servicing trash/recycling receptacles around the golf course.  These volunteers must have a working knowledge of golf and be able to lift 40 lbs. and drive a golf cart.

Operations Volunteers

Operations volunteers will be assigned on an as-needed basis each day.  These volunteers must be able to adapt quickly to perform whatever function is needed.

Caddie Service Volunteers

Caddie Service volunteers will distribute and collect the caddie bibs for stroke and match play rounds. Volunteers will also be responsible for attaching the player’s name strips to the back of the caddie bibs.
